Gulf Coast Dermatopathology Laboratory is a full-service dermatopathology lab founded in 1981 under the direction of John L. Millns, M.D. and maintains accreditation through the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Our dermatopathologists, John Millns, M.D., and Mark Cappel, M.D., are Mayo Clinic trained and board certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. David Wang, MD and Mustafa Mohammad MD are board certified in Dermatopathology and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Our support staff includes ASCP licensed histotechnologists, histotechnicians and full customer service department. Teamwork is the key to providing consistently accurate and timely results. We utilize state of the art equipment and extensive diagnostic reagents and immunoperoxidase stains to provide the most accurate results possible. This coupled with a strong personal relationship with our referring clinicians has made GCDL the success it is today.

  • John Millns, MD

    Dr. John Millns was born and raised in Toledo Ohio. He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Toledo and his medical degree from the Ohio State University. Following an internship in internal medicine at the University of Missouri Dr. Millns completed his dermatology residency and fellowship in dermatopathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

  • Mark Cappel, MD

    Dr. Mark Cappel was born and raised in Monroe, Wisconsin. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and graduated Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He earned his Doctor of Medicine and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Hershey. Following an Internship in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Dr. Cappel completed his Dermatology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

  • David Wang, MD

    Dr. David Wang is from Plano, Texas. He received his BA from the University of Chicago in Biological Sciences after 3 years and earned his Doctor of Medicine from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Wang completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Colorado, where he served as chief resident. He then went on to complete a fellowship in soft tissue pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and a second fellowship in Dermatopathology at Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

  • Mustafa Mohammad, MD

    Dr. Mustafa Mohammad was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. He attended the University of Missouri where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Science and graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa and with departmental honors. He attended Tufts University School of Medicine before completing his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident.
